SRI AUROBINDO INSTITUTE OF CULTURE

Based out of Tollygunge in bustling South Kolkata, Sri Aurobindo Institute of Culture exists since 1975 and has spawned numerous entities namely a reputed higher secondary school, founded on the educational philosophy of the Mother and Sri Aurobindo, called The Future Foundation School (ranked among the top 2 Day, Co-educational Schools of the city and state by Education World); its forerunner Arun Nursery, the latter named and blessed by the Mother herself; Galerie La Mere, inspired by the fact that the Mother was an important painter from the impressionist school in turn of the 20th century France, hosting numerous exhibitions of celebrated and upcoming artists; Shakti Centre, one of Kolkata’s most well-rounded schools for music, art and craft, and blessed by the Mother, and, last but not least, Aumorto, a premier senior living facility at Uttarbhag, near Baruipur.

The premises from which the Institute functions has been described by the Mother as the Home of Grace and her house in Kolkata. It has been a second home for decades to people from all strata and walks of life, industrialists, academicians, litterateurs, artists, musicians, etc.

In Sri Aurobindo’s words “An outer activity as well as an inner change is needed and it must be at once a spiritual, cultural, educational, social and economical action”.

ARUN NURSERY SCHOOL

It opened its doors on September 04, 1972 with The Mother’s Blessings. The pre-school owes its existence to the singular effort of Shri Arun Tagore. Hence the Mother named the School after Arun da.

The school caters to children from 2 years of age to 5 years of age. The four levels are, namely, Toddlers, Nursery, KG I and KG II. Children, after passing out, get preferential admission to The Future Foundation School, or other reputed schools in the city. Arun Nursery School has embraced the concept of ‘Theme Teaching’. Learning and social skills, as well as important concepts, are developed in children through this approach. It has been found that the children who have been exposed to this method of teaching have developed greater self-confidence, awareness, thinking skills and learning readiness. This approach emphasises Concept over Content and helps the child develop a holistic outlook towards life. Arun Nursery believes in avoiding an exclusive focus on text books and encourages the child to experience the world at large.
