✨Art Across Generations: Class VI Explores Parama 2026 at Aumorto✨
The students of Class VI recently visited Aumorto, the senior citizens’ facility at Uttarbhag, Baruipur, on June 19, 2026, to view Parama 2026, an exhibition of artworks by women artists from Kolkata, organised by the Sri Aurobindo Institute of Culture.
The exhibition showcased a variety of paintings that encouraged the students to observe closely, think deeply, and respond creatively.
After exploring the exhibition, the students were invited to share which painting they liked most and explain their choice. They came forward with great enthusiasm and spoke spontaneously about the colours, themes, emotions, and stories they discovered in the artworks. Their thoughtful responses demonstrated how art can inspire imagination and personal reflection. They also had the opportunity to meet some of the artists and learn about the ideas and inspirations behind their works.
A special feature of the visit was the interaction between the students and the senior residents of Aumorto. Several residents joined the discussion, sharing their favourite paintings and explaining why those works appealed to them. This exchange of ideas created a warm and engaging atmosphere in which children and seniors listened to and learned from one another. The students gained new perspectives, while the residents enjoyed the energy and curiosity of the young visitors.
The programme concluded with a drawing workshop inspired by the exhibition. Children and senior residents worked side by side, creating drawings based on their impressions of the artworks they had viewed. This collaborative activity encouraged creativity, communication, and mutual appreciation.
Introducing children to art exhibitions from an early age is important because it develops observation skills, creativity, empathy, and confidence in self-expression.
Art helps young minds understand different viewpoints and encourages independent thinking. Equally important are opportunities for interaction between generations. Such experiences foster respect, understanding, and a sense of community.
