Skill Development Sessions with Dr. Abhishek Ghosh

✨ After-school life – the expectations & the excitement ✨
Class XII had an insightful session with Dr. Abhishek Ghosh on ‘After-school Life’. Dr. Ghosh a Phd in Molecular Biology and Biochemistry, from the University of Calgary, Canada, who is presently practsing as a Wellness Coach and School Counsellor, after 15 years abroad, highlighted the importance of taking ownership and becoming self-reliant sooner than later.
Students were exposed to strategies such as crafting a CV/Resume, a Statement of Purpose, networking through travel and meetings, and were informed about the cardinal importance of having a presence in online platforms such as LinkedIn, to sustain fast-paced learning. The cardinal importance of a back-up plan was harped upon as was the importance of coping with what lay ahead, without causing any harm to the mind or body.

✨Coping with failures and building resilience✨

Class XI had a 40min brainstorming session on handling failures, with Dr. Abhishek Ghosh.

Dr. Ghosh, who had completed his PhD in Molecular Biology and Biochemistry from the University of Calgary, Canada, has worked abroad for 15 years before returning to India. At present he works as a Wellness Coach and Student Counsellor. Dr. Abhishek Ghosh’s session with the students focussed on the accepting failures, learning from mistakes, staying positive, yet grounded and walking the path of success.
De-escalation techniques to prevent potential violence, conflict avoidance and active listening were some valuable topics that were touched upon in this wonderful session on self-improvement.

 

 

The students of Class VIII at The Future Foundation School engaged in a virtual tour into the world of Social Media, conducted by Dr. Abhishek Ghosh.
In these sessions, we explored what is addiction and its subtypes. Additionally, the students learned about the characteristics of a “social media addicted” person, following the norms of parental guidance while using any platform and adhering to the rules of the platform (Facebook, Instagram, YouTube etc.) to avoid any kind of violation.
The students were also educated about the social media business model and how it uses different modes of distraction to impact the user attention span such as ads and short content.
Of note, students were given a simple hack based on screen time to reduce their addiction within 3 weeks complementing with practices such as acceptance and gratitude.
The overall session focussed on using the social media for diverse and meaningful activities in a responsible manner boosting holistic well being and classroom performance.

 

Building Self-Esteem – A Journey Within
The students of Class VI at The Future Foundation School engaged in an insightful session on Self-Esteem, conducted by Dr. Abhishek Ghosh, exploring how we value our achievements and understand our strengths.
Through interactive discussions and deep thinking activities, students identified profiles of low and high self-esteem, and reflected on how self-perception shapes our purpose and productivity.
The session concluded with powerful strategies to boost self-esteem — inspired by The Mother’s words:
“Be confident, you will become what you have to be and achieve what you have to do.”
Empowering young minds to recognise their worth and walk the path of confidence and self-belief!

 

🧠📚 The Power of Self-Study 📚🧠

Students of Class VII at The Future Foundation School took part in an engaging session with Dr. Abhishek Ghosh, focusing on effective self-study habits that boost performance and encourage independent learning.

The session also explored the contrast between holistic school education and non-holistic private tuitions, urging students to take charge of their academic journey.

 

🧘‍♂️✨ Body as a Temple✨🧘‍♀️

The students of Class V at The Future Foundation School recently participated in an enlightening session on the theme “Body as a Temple”, led by Dr. Abhishek Ghosh, our in-house Student Counsellor.

Through the lens of the Upanishadic concept of Panchakosha, students were introduced to the five layers of being — Physical, Vital, Mental, Intellectual, and Spiritual — laying the foundation for a holistic, healthy, and medicine-free life.
This session sowed the seeds of self-awareness and wellbeing at a young age, empowering our learners to view the body not just as a physical entity, but as a sacred vessel for growth and evolution.

 

What do we mean by Life Skills

LIFE SKILLS
In our globalised world where “change ” is the only constant factor, we need to instill in our children the necessary skills to adapt to this change, while retaining their cultural, ethical, social and spiritual values.
The teaching of Life Skills equip the children with the ability to cope with the daily material functions of life, and help them to be independent and self-sufficient.
The teaching of Soft Skills help the children imbibe those abstract skills which they need to acquire along with their formal education in order to relate, survive and succeed in their environment.
Certain things that the children are being taught at different levels in our school are:
Personal hygiene
Healthy and good food habits
Importance of sleep and rest
Importance of exercise and play
Study habits – during weekdays and weekends
Non-flame cooking
Folding T-shirts
Self awareness / Diversity awareness
Time Management
Empathy/Friendship/ Teamwork
Anger Management and handling peer pressure.
Communication
Listening skills
Handling social media
Respect for elders /friends /other associates
SMS, email and conversational etiquette
Sartorial and dining etiquette.
1. Children are made aware that they have to develop the right attitude to learn. They should have the right mental frame and desire to interact and adapt to the environment and people around them.
2. They should be able to communicate and have the ability to express their positive attitude, knowledge and skills to the world at large.

3. Children are made aware of the commonly accepted norms and behaviour that are needed to be followed to achieve effective communication

Life Skills Activities

LIFE SKILLS
Certain things that have been taught in our school at different levels are as
follows:
1. Making a Thank You card : All of us need to be grateful for all the things that we have received in our lives. We are blessed. And for that, we need to be thankful to our parents, relatives, friends, teachers and all our associates. The children of Classes 4 and 5 had a special way of saying ‘Thank you’. They made cards and
wrote their own messages in it. They learnt how to appreciate others.
2. Making A Helpfulness Diary : A helping hand can be a ray of sunshine in a cloudy world. We should always help one another whenever we can and wherever we can. The students of Classes 4 and 5 maintained a Helpfulness Diary for a week where they wrote down how they have helped their family members, teachers and friends by doing some work for them. They also discussed in the class how each of them have
tried to help others in their own special way.
3. Apart from the diary, there was also a discussion on how children have helped people or animals on different occasions, which they shared with the class.
4. The children of Class 6 spoke about the importance of rest, sleep and play in our lives.
5. Making a gift wrapping paper : The young children used newspapers to make their own gift wrapping papers, to decorate gift items. They used their own ideas and learnt to reduce waste and reuse things.
6. Gift Wrapping : The children used the gift wrapping papers made by themselves to wrap small gift items like pencil boxes, small books, pouches and small boxes. It was a fun activity for them at the same time and a useful one.
7. Vital Education Class on “ Being Cooperative and Handling Friendship : Just having friends is not enough, we also need to learn how to maintain friendship and be co-operative. “Unity is strength”. With cooperation, we can do our work better, learn to give our best, delegate activities and learn teamwork and respect each other.
8. The children learnt to pack their school bags and keep their things tidily. This brings about a sense of belonging and responsibility in them.
9. To enhance soft skills, a few videos were shown to the children, which they watched with rapt attention. Then they analysed what they had seen and learnt from it.
10. For the festive occasion, the children took great interest in developing their creative skills. They made floral rangoli and enjoyed the activity thoroughly.
11. The children have been made aware of their strengths and weaknesses. They are aware that they need to use their strengths effectively and at the same time overcome their weaknesses to build their confidence and personalities.
12. The children have had a brainstorming session on the importance of personal hygiene and maintaining good food habits. Children are encouraged to eat at least one fruit daily and refrain from eating junk food regularly.
13. Anger Management sessions have been conducted to make children aware of how to control their anger. They have shared several strategies with their respective classes on how to check their temper on different occasions.
14. The importance of our families was also discussed. Each child shared their experiences of spending some quality time with their family members and how they were making use of their “me time” too.

Cyber security as a Profession

The Class 7 students visited Uttarbhag as part of their “Bagless Day”

initiative on 8th and 12th May, 2025. The experience was truly valuable and fruitful, as the children had a wonderful time there. They engaged in their assigned group projects in Chemistry, played various games, and enjoyed quality time with their friends. As part of promoting stress-free learning, activities focussed on mental and physical well-being, while seamlessly integrating curriculum objectives. The students are now eagerly looking forward to their next Bagless Day.

 

The Class 8 students visited Uttarbhag as part of their “Bagless Day”

initiative on 24th and 28th April,2025. The experience was truly valuable and fruitful, as the children had a wonderful time there. They engaged in their assigned group projects, played various games, and enjoyed quality time with their friends. As part of promoting stress-free learning, activities focussed on mental and physical well-being, while seamlessly integrating curriculum objectives. The students are now eagerly looking forward to their next Bagless Day.

NON-FIRE COOKING COMPETITION

✨The Vocational Club, which encourages going beyond academics to master life skills, organised a NON-FIRE COOKING COMPETITION, aiming to foster creativity and team work among students✨

The array of delicious dishes included sandwiches, pizza, pasta, salads, sushi, smoothies, cold coffee, cakes and Indian sweets.The event, held on December 6, 2024, was a grand success!

 

✨Block Printing Workshop ✨

As a part of their Vocational Education Activity, on May 16, 2025, students of Class VII of The Future Foundation School participated in an engaging block printing workshop which comprised creative, hands-on activity that was guided by the skilled resource person Sayani Chakraborty and Shabari Hazra Owner and designer of Asha The Fashion Makers and Swapan Giri who is a Designer and Master Printer. The students learnt how various wooden blocks carved with intricate designs can be used to create beautiful prints. Each student brought a piece of white cloth and used blocks to design their own unique patterns in vibrant colors.The workshop turned out to be a wonderful learning experience.
